About Us

Dura Pilling was constituted as a company on October of 1953 and its core business was mainly about making deep ground foundations for infrastructures and buildings. From the beginning the company distinguished itself from other existing companies achieving a considerable market share within the South African special foundations market.

During the infrastructure boom of the seventies and early eighties, the company distinguished itself as a specialist in piling for bridges, and was involved in most of the major bridges built during this period. During the nineties and early 2000’s the focus shifted to industrial projects, and Dura was involved in some of the biggest industrial projects constructed during this period. It was also during this period in post-apartheid South Africa that Dura started to spread its wings into the rest of Africa, with major success in projects in Mozambique, Zambia and Botswana.

In 2003 SOLETANCHE-BACHY acquired almost all equity from Dura’s shareholders and the company’s name was changed to Dura SOLETANCHE-BACHY. Currently the company is the only direct active branch that the Group possesses in Africa with penetration in all of Southern Africa (Angola, Namibia, Democratic Republic of Congo, South Africa, Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Lesotho, Malawi, Swaziland and Congo Brazzaville) and the Indian Ocean islands (Madagascar, Mauritius, Seychelles and Comores)

In 2007 the VINCI Group acquired Soletanche Bachy’s total equity which further consolidated the Group’s worldwide activity, thus allowing its unambiguous and natural appetite for consolidating and enhancing its internationalization to the African markets.

From January 1, 2009, Soletanche and Freyssinet were jointed together into the Soletanche-Freyssinet holding group which enabled even more synergies between Soletanche Bachy and different companies of the Freyssinet Group. We believe that the success of Dura Soletanche Bachy is a direct consequence of the quality and experience of being in this demanding segment of the construction market for almost 60 years. However, we are confident that our success will always be closely linked to the excellent relationship we have with our "Stakeholders", with special emphasis on our employees, our customers (either public or private entities, financial entities/promoters or main contractors), our suppliers and also with Universities and Designers

Regarding our future, we are certain to continue our activity in an increasingly demanding and comprehensive market in all of Southern Africa, focusing on providing the best service, supported by the best and latest technical and technological solutions available for the specific Geotechnical Engineering and Foundations segment.

The essence of being Dura Soletanche Bachy is based on our willingness to succeed, in our experience and our desire to make the future happen.
